Automating Records Management
For many years, Ken Megill has believed that many, if not most, of the problems of an organization lie in inadequate use of information. His theoretical and practical work includes bringing about practical improvements in records management through automation. These include:
Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Administrator of National Banks, Washington DC as the agency's first professional records manager where he reorganized and automated the central files, implemented a national filing system for six regional offices, - Identified trained and mentored district records coordinators, supervised records reorganization programs as part of a move to a new building, reduced paper records by fifty per cent, and worked full time for six months as a member of a team to develop an integrated data dictionary for the organization. The systems and database which he designed continues to be used by the organization.
Cuadra Associates. Since 1993, he has had a relationship with Cuadra Associates, a specialized software company building superb tools for information services professions. He helped the company develop software applications to automate the management of records in all formats, including paper and electronic records. This collaboration has led to the development of an application of STAR software that is being used internationally.
