Creating and Building a Small Business
In 1989, Ken Megill and his partner opened a 100-seat restaurant in downtown Washington, DC. The business has flourished for more than ten years, winning awards and recognition far beyond it neighborhood. The business incorporates many of the concepts in Ken Megill's writings -cooperative work, sharing information, and providing good customer service. A small business in the service industry is a good place to test. Owning a small business brings with it the most immediate test of successful management - meeting a payroll and customer needs. In 1999, according to the ten-year plan, the main restaurant was closed, while the smaller business and real estate management continuing.
